Name:<\/strong> Auroville<\/p>\n

Location:<\/strong> Tamil Nadu, South-India<\/p>\n

Founded:<\/strong> 28th<\/sup> of February, 1968 by the Mother (Mirra Alfassa; 1878 – 1973).<\/p>\n

Owners:<\/strong> Nobody in particular and humanity as a whole.<\/p>\n

Size:<\/strong> About 20 square kilometres with the intention to acquire more land.<\/p>\n

Purpose:<\/strong> The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity \u2013 in diversity. Today Auroville sees itself as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity and transformation of consciousness, also concerned with \u2013 and practically researching into \u2013 sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind. Projects:<\/strong> countless projects, initiatives, businesses, communities.<\/p>\n

Future plans:\u00a0<\/strong>Physically: <\/em>Realize the Auroville Master Plan to grow the township to host 50.000 citizens. Auroville aims at becoming a model of the ‘city of the future’ or ‘the city the earth needs’. It wants to show the world that future realisations in all fields of work will allow humans to build beautiful cities where people are sincerely looking towards a more harmonious future they want to live. Spiritually:<\/em> Reach a higher level of human consciousness and human unity in diversity.<\/p>\n

Team:<\/strong> Currently around 2.500 Aurovillians live in Auroville.<\/p>\n

New members:<\/strong> Have to go through a Newcomer\u2019s process which currently takes one year.\u00a0Terms and conditions change from time to time. More.<\/a><\/p>\n

Volunteering:<\/strong> Possible in countless projects, farms, businesses. Volunteers are required to obtain a Volunteer Visa for India, which is only possible before entering India and should usually be obtain in the home country.<\/p>\n

Legal entity:<\/strong> Auroville Foundation with three authorities: the Governing Board, the International Advisory Council and the Residents Assembly.<\/p>\n

Funding:<\/strong> Over the past decades, Auroville has received support from a considerable number of governmental and non-governmental agencies, foundations, corporate donors and private well-wishers in India and abroad. Details.<\/a><\/p>\n

Tobacco and alcohol:<\/strong> The consumption of alcohol is strongly discouraged in Auroville. It cannot be purchased anywhere in the township. Mother discouraged the use of tobacco.<\/p>\n
