How do young people envision the future of work? That’s what I asked my fellow co-working space members in the Ko Hub on Koh Lanta in Thailand. Some of them are Digital Nomads and have been travelling for years. Most but not all work location independent and earn money through using a computer and the internet.<\/p>\n
Concerning the future of work, the internet surely is one of the\u00a0main driver for change, together with automatization. However, switching an office chair in the cold German winter for a bamboo chair on a tropical Island is just one of many changes ahead.<\/p>\n
Personally I belive that the internet bears a big chance to reverse the trend of young people moving to the cities. I would love to live in a rural area together with like-minded people. During my travels I met many young people who were very enthusiastic\u00a0when I talked about my idea of\u00a0a co-working space in the country-side. For many this vision of the future of work and life would be an ideal combination of community and exchange as well as nature and space.<\/p>\n
If young remote workers re-populated villages that would also attract people with jobs that cannot be done on a computer, like doctors, bakers, cooks, teachers, fire-figthers and many more. There are more and more\u00a0abandoned villages throughout Europe. With the help of the internet and digital workers these could turn into thriving communities in very beautiful landscapes.<\/p>\n
